1-DAY Calm Yarn Suicide Intervention Skills

CALM YARN is a culturally appropriate, one-day Australian training program designed to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to have CALM conversations about suicide. Delivered by an Indigenous facilitator, this program reduces stigma, promotes help-seeking, and connects individuals to culturally appropriate supports. Developed in partnership with an Indigenous Elder, CALM YARN teaches four key actions to guide someone from thoughts of suicide to safety.

What You Will Receive

  • The CALM model to guide you through the four stages of intervention.
  • A 24-page workbook with tools, skills, and a list of national helplines and websites.
  • The “Be Safe” app or worksheet for safety planning.
  • Reading materials for further learning and development.
  • A printed certificate of attendance.
  • A workshop led by an accredited Indigenous trainer.
  • Insights from a program developed with an Indigenous Elder.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand Indigenous culture and the factors contributing to Indigenous suicide.
  • Recognise warning signs, risk factors, and protective factors.
  • Learn culturally appropriate ways to ask about and discuss suicide.
  • Connect individuals with culturally appropriate support networks.
  • Develop a plan for safety and strength in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Gain proficiency in using the Calm Yarn model and relevant well-being apps.
